Jamie Cureton’s Contract (part two)

June 24, 2011

So we have had a busy week with Lenny signing, the Staium Redevelopemnt exhibition, the fixtures, the League Cup draw and plenty other stuff going on in the football world. I’m going to get the ball rolling with Jamie Cureton and what the failure to agree terms means for us in my book at least. It would appear that my initial hope and indeed certainty that Jamie would be signing on for another year have been dashed. It’s been announced he is now in talks with his beloved Rovers and rampant Buckle and more recently that there had been contact from hs old club Colchester. Tisdale declared that there was essentially no chance of him signing on with City in the Echo the other day. My thoughts on this have already been covered so this is more about what happens instead.

Tisdale bless his heart has come out and said we won’t be replacing him. This would be devastating news if I believed it for one second. I’m sure we will bring in a young attacking player to develop still but with the emphasis on Bauza as a striker I wonder if the Lord Almighty is thinking if signing an attacking midfielder rather than a striker . We do desperately need cover in that area but whose to say the nine youngsters on our books can’t make the step up? We have now signed up those players with uncertain futures (Nardiello, Noble and Duffy) and we have made three of the five signings I asked for. However, now that Jamie is looking to move to pastures new we are still need a right-back, a defensively minded midfielder, an attacking minded midfielder possibly capable of playing out wide and either a young striker or another attacking minded midfielder. With the exception of the right back however I can see Tisdale giving the chance to some of our youngsters to play the covering role and help their development. The prime candidates would have to be Frear and Shepheard. I have already said that I think Nicholls will have some part to play but I would like to see us bring in another main striker still. Logan, Nardiello and O’Flynn are all excellent strikers and all offer something different but last year demonstrated how thin we can get with four recognised strikers so either we need a nother midfielder and treat Bauza as a forward or another striker and allow him to replace Harley as per plan A.

So we still need in my opinion,

RB- Needed as no youth players and Duffy is unable to fullfill this role sufficiently.

DM-Needed I don’t feel we have nay younger players capable of challenging Dunne/Noble (depending on which way round Tis plays them)

AM- Noble/Liam/Bauza a very strong line up but can we really rely on Shepheard and Frear to cover yet?

AM/ST- as above we need one or the other preferably a young player released from a higher division and looking to develop themselves.

The younger players can then be given run outs but without too much pressure on them to perform and succeed immediatly. I would absolutly hope to see more of them getting a chance this season now that we have established ourselves at this level.
